Disinfection does not replace cleaning, it follows it
On a surface with a residue of secretions, protein or grease the active substance is bound and no longer reaches the concentration needed — which is why the surface is cleaned first and only then disinfected. Second, the contact time decides the outcome: the surface has to stay visibly wet for the stated time, and wiped dry straight away it achieves practically nothing. Third, the spectrum of activity has to suit the pathogen — alcohol and quaternary compounds do not cover non-enveloped viruses such as noroviruses, and for those a preparation listed as virucidal is needed.
The smell of urine is rarely in the floor
Urine salts crystallise out wherever liquid is left standing: in open tile joints, in aged silicone seals and under the escutcheons of grab rails. The deposit itself is a crystalline calcium salt and dissolves with acidic cleaners and contact time, which must not, however, be used on natural stone or on damaged enamel. What cannot be dissolved is a question of the joints and not a question of cleaning — at the initial assessment we say which seal needs renewing.
Shine on a floor is not cleanliness, and can be a falling risk
A film-forming maintenance product lays down a polymer layer that reflects light and at the same time reduces the coefficient of friction — in a building with walking frames and walking sticks that is not a mark of quality. Linoleum, in turn, will not tolerate a permanently strongly alkaline attack, because the linoxyn layer saponifies and the surface becomes dull and blotchy; rubber reacts to solvent-based agents, and design floorings with a polyurethane finish to pads that are too aggressive. We clean in a way appropriate to the covering, keep the slip resistance of the floor that is laid, and set down in writing which surface gets which treatment.
