Blackout fabric and blinds must not get wet
Blackout material is a woven fabric with a backing coating of acrylic or foam, and it is precisely that layer which makes it light-tight. Moisture, rubbing and alkaline agents attack it: the fabric becomes patchy, the layer splits open along the folds, and after that the guest sees points of light in a darkened room — damage that cannot be recovered and means replacing the whole width. The work is done dry: with low suction and a brush nozzle from top to bottom, track, gliders and blind cassette dusted, marks treated individually with little moisture and dried afterwards. Laundering fabrics of this kind runs through the supplier according to the care label and not through the floor team.
Bed bugs are identified from the seam, not from the insect
What is visible first are dark specks of excrement, cast skins and egg cases on the mattress seam, the slatted base, the headboard and behind loose beading — the insect itself is rarely seen during the day. A find is a case for reporting and not a case for cleaning: vacuuming, spraying or changing the linen in an open trolley distributes the population across the floor. The procedure is to take the room out of use, remove the linen in a closed bag, include the neighbouring rooms and call in a pest controller — we train our staff on that and report immediately with a photograph and the room number.
Urine scale needs acid, and chlorine must not be added to it
Urine scale is a solid mixture of salts that deposits in the trap and under the flush rim; it only dissolves in the acidic range with contact time, and alkaline all-purpose cleaners do nothing to it, however often it is wiped. It becomes dangerous when an acidic sanitary cleaner meets an agent containing chlorine — that produces chlorine gas, and it is one of the most common causes of injury in a guest bathroom altogether.
