Photovoltaics are not cleaned like a window
Modules carry an anti-reflective layer: hard brushes, scouring agents and a blade take yield away permanently, and residues of cleaning agent form a film on which dirt settles again faster. Work is done with demineralised water and no additives, a soft brush and on a cool module — cold water on a pane heated up in operation is a thermal shock that can be avoided. The edge counts as well: moss and leaves at the frame shade cells permanently, and a permanently shaded cell becomes a hot spot in the module.
Limescale on glass is first a deposit and then an etching
In showers, steam rooms and around pools, water with hardness minerals and soap residue dries into a layer that can at first be dissolved with an acidic agent. If it stays for months, the constant wetting attacks the glass surface itself: silicate is leached out, the surface goes matt, and that matt finish remains even after the most thorough descaling. What pays, therefore, is a short interval with acidic cleaning and, where it suits, a sealant that delays adhesion — not one great rescue attempt after two years.
Dull is not dirty: glass corrosion is damage to the material
If alkaline water runs over glass — cement water from the site, run-off over fresh concrete, mortar splashes left for days — silicate is leached out of the surface. The result is a matt, milky etching that no cleaning will bring back; after that only polishing by a glass specialist will help, and not always even then. That is why cleaning glass after building work is a deadline and not a matter of taste: the sooner the residue is off, the less remains.
