Drip edge, collection channel and outlet
Whitish rims at the lower edge are crystallised fertiliser salt, not limescale dirt from outside. The channel, strainer and outlet are cleared, and the felt edge checked for waterlogging.
Preserved moss and artificial walls
Here the work is exclusively dry: low suction power, a brush nozzle held at a distance, a soft brush for joints and frames. Wet work would alter the material rather than clean it.

Dust on the leaf is a light problem, not a cosmetic one
Interior planting lives at the lower limit of its light requirement; a closed layer of dust on the upper leaf surface takes away further radiation and the plant responds with pale, soft leaves and losses in the lower panels. Gas exchange runs through stomata, which lie mostly on the underside of the leaf — which is why the work is done from above and without leaf shine products, because their film closes the pores and the surface then binds dust more strongly. Cleaning is done with decalcified water, or limescale spots are left standing on the leaf as it dries.
Preserved moss walls must not get wet
The moss is not alive but preserved with glycerine: the glycerine keeps it permanently soft, but it is water-soluble, and a wet pass washes it out — after which the surface becomes brittle, breaks at the edges and loses colour. Because glycerine draws moisture from the air, the wall needs a middling range of room humidity and no direct sun, which bleaches it further. Artificial planting is a second special case: its flame-retardant treatment is applied and water-soluble, a wet clean takes it away, and the evidence towards the fire safety design is no longer covered afterwards.
The white rim is fertiliser crystallising out
In closed irrigation circuits, nutrient solution is circulated; the water evaporates through the leaf surface, the salts remain and concentrate until they precipitate as a white crust at the drip edge, the fleece and the channel. Anyone who only takes off the crust has it back within a few weeks — the cause lies in the dosing, the conductivity and the flushing interval of the system. We take the rim off, clear the outlet and report the findings to the planting contractor instead of wiping the same spot every month.
