Screed and concrete dust contains silica
The fine fraction from screed, concrete and masonry contains crystalline silicon dioxide, which can be drawn into the lungs. Sweeping, or a domestic vacuum, puts it back into the air, because the filter does not hold it. That is why we work with vacuums of dust class M and avoid dry sweeping on bare floors — it is occupational safety for our team and at the same time the reason the area genuinely stays dust-free afterwards.
Plaster dust first dry, then damp
Drylining dust consists essentially of gypsum. If water reaches it before it has been vacuumed up, a tenacious haze forms which dries onto glass, tiles and floors and can afterwards only be removed mechanically. The order, then, is not a matter of taste: vacuum completely first, working from the top down, then go over damp. Anyone who starts straight away with a mop does the work twice.
Protective films have a shelf life
Window protection films and frame tapes are intended for a few weeks. If they lie on the south face through a summer, the adhesive cross-links under UV light: the film tears into strips and the adhesive residue stays fast to the glass, or takes the powder coating of the frame with it when pulled off. We report films of that kind as soon as we see them, and dissolve residues with contact time rather than with a blade.
