Cement haze is not solved by the agent but by the timing
Cement haze is washed-out lime and binder; alkaline cleaners achieve nothing against it, because chemically they work in the wrong direction. What works are acidic cement haze removers, and that is exactly where the two traps lie: if the work is done too early the grout is not yet sufficiently hydrated, the acid washes binder out of the joint, and the result is sanding, open joints that count as cleaning damage. And on lime-bearing natural stone, terrazzo or cement tiles the acid does not attack the haze but the covering itself — dull marks appear that can only be removed by grinding. Hence: wait for curing, saturate the joint with water beforehand, a test area in an inconspicuous place, and on acid-sensitive substrates mechanical rather than chemical work.
Building dust scratches the covering if you sweep it
Building dust from concrete, screed, filler and plasterboard contains quartz, is sharp-edged and alkaline. Swept dry, two things happen: the fine fraction rises and settles over the next few hours on every surface that has just been finished, and the coarse fraction is dragged under the broom across soft coverings. PVC, linoleum, design flooring and parquet pick up micro-scratches in the process that leave the covering dull and prone to soiling — damage that is only noticed weeks later as wear. The right way is: vacuum with dust class M, then damp in two passes with frequent water changes, because the first pass only releases and the second takes off. Anyone who stops after the first pass spreads an alkaline slurry that dries grey.
Glass damage happens during the build, not during the cleaning
Alkaline cement liquor, mortar splashes, grinding sparks and welding spatter attack the glass surface; left standing for longer, glass corrosion develops that no cleaning method reverses. The same applies to flash rust on glass and aluminium, which eats in. In practice that means: construction glass cleaning belongs early in the sequence, not only at handover, and it needs plenty of water for flushing out, so that cement particles do not become abrasive grit under the blade. Blades are used only after approval and never on solar control, mirrored or coated glass, because the coating may be on the outside. Whatever has already eaten in before our visit we record with a photograph before we start work.
