Fabric-covered absorbers and mineral wool modules behave similarly: moisture draws dirt particles into the depth and the surface stays patchy. The correct treatment is a brush nozzle with extraction and no pressure; individual marks are deliberately left until the institution decides on replacing the module.
Timber and the heating season
Instruments of timber react to humidity, and a range of around forty to sixty per cent is regarded as tolerable; during the heating season the figure regularly falls below that in teaching rooms, and then the soundboard and the tuning work against their owner. Floors mopped wet give their moisture up to the room air within a short time, which is well meant but uncontrolled — a short-term peak stresses timber more than a stable low figure does. We keep the quantity of water small, leave lacquered surfaces alone entirely and agree the ventilation after cleaning with the institution, which controls the humidification.
