Sauna and steam room are two different tasks
In a sauna cabin, cleaning agent has no business being in the timber: it draws in and gases off when the cabin is heated, and any film closes the pores. Benches and backrests are worked dry, lightened mechanically, and treated with a suitable agent only on the contact surfaces. The steam room is the opposite: permanently damp, warm and laden with limescale, so the classic place for biofilm — there the work is descaling with an acid, disinfecting, and opening the nozzle and the outlet.
Hot water, shower heads and stagnation belong in the plan
In hot water pipework, legionella grow in the range between roughly twenty-five and forty-five degrees, particularly where water stands and a biofilm sits — shower hoses, shower heads and rarely used runs are the typical places. Cleaning and descaling the outlet fittings, and regularly flushing rarely used showers, are therefore parts of the plan and not special work. The installation itself, its temperatures and its sampling remain the responsibility of the operator and their specialist contractor — we report what we notice in passing.
Sweat is a salt solution and goes on working
What is left behind on pads, handles and dumbbells is water with salt, urea and skin oils. The chloride content attacks chromed and nickel-plated parts and leads there to pitting corrosion which can no longer be polished out. That is why the film is removed first and the disinfection follows: a disinfectant on a film of grease does not reach the surface and is wasted work.
