A deep clean in the maintenance window

The chlorine smell does not come from chlorine but from chloramines
Free chlorine in the pool water reacts with urea, sweat and skin oils to form combined chlorine — including trichloramine, which goes into the hall air and produces the characteristic smell that is often read as a sign of too much disinfection. How the water is treated is governed by the pool hygiene regulations and, in Austria, by the water quality requirements of ÖNORM M 6215 together with the process specifications of DIN 19643; that is the business of the pool plant technicians. The cleaning decides the supply: showers and barefoot routes in which skin oils and salts are left behind feed it continuously, and those are exactly the surfaces that are dealt with consistently and not merely superficially.
Acid against limescale is right — except over cement-bound grout
Lime soap and limescale deposits only dissolve in the acidic range, and that through dwell time rather than through a higher concentration. Cement-bound grout is attacked in the process: it sands away, becomes hollow and then draws water behind the tile — epoxy-resin grout takes it in its stride, which is why the type of grout comes before the product. The second point is a safety point: acidic sanitary cleaner and chlorine-based products must never come together, because that releases chlorine gas; so one product per work step, no mixing, no decanting.
Stainless steel in an indoor pool hall is a special case
Chlorides in the warm, damp hall air settle on stainless steel and can lead there to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking — fine cracks that can hardly be seen from outside and can affect load-bearing parts. The common grade 1.4301 is not permanently resistant in an indoor pool atmosphere; for load-bearing components only high-molybdenum grades are provided for, and fixings from a DIY store have no place there. For the cleaning that means: no chloride- or chlorine-based products on stainless steel, rinse off, wipe dry — and report anything notable on bolted connections and suspensions in writing.
