At the water surface, whatever was on the skin collects: skin oils, sun cream, body lotion and hair products. These substances form a tough, water-insoluble film that binds dirt and goes dark over time — acid does not help there, because it is not limescale. Work is done with a mildly alkaline pool cleaner, a brush and contact time. With a liner a second point comes in: abrasives, solvents and hard pads draw plasticiser out of the PVC liner, it goes matt, chalks and becomes brittle at the welded seam — which is why the lining comes before the product. And the rim comes back as long as people do not shower; the obligation to shower before entering the pool is not a formality but the most effective part of the cleaning.
Sauna timber tolerates no cleaner
Untreated softwood in the cabin is absorbent: surfactants, fragrances and disinfectants soak in and are given off again on heating up — the cabin then smells of cleaner, and the emission irritates eyes and airways. Benches are therefore worked with clean water and a brush in the direction of the grain, heavily coated surfaces sanded mechanically, and seat slats taken out where needed rather than scrubbed wet. Hygiene in a sauna area is decided outside the cabin in any case: on handles, door levers, loungers, head rests, footbaths and barefoot routes — there we work with listed products and the contact time observed. The stove and the stones stay with the pool plant technicians.
The haze on the glass may be glass corrosion
In an indoor pool hall the absolute humidity is high; moisture condenses on glazing and metal profiles, and the spray mist from the pool water dries there as a layer of limescale and salts. If it is left standing over a longer period, the alkaline environment attacks the glass surface: matt patches and streaks appear that are no longer a deposit but a change in the pane — that clouding cannot be brought back with any product. That is why glazing in an indoor pool hall is a matter for a cycle and not for an occasion, and the work is done mildly acidic and with soft tools.
