Equipment and grip surfaces
Handles, levers, pads, displays and barbells are first freed of the film and then wiped over with a disinfectant. Which agent is permitted on which upholstery is recorded for each type of machine.
Weights floor of rubber granulate
Sweeping, then cleaning with a barely damp pad using an agent approved for elastomers. No solvents and no strongly alkaline deep cleaners, because they wash the binder out.
Studio and sports floor
Resilient sports floors and sealed parquet are cleaned with a barely damp pad only, and water is not left standing. Mats, steppers and small equipment belong in the same pass.
Changing room, showers and barefoot area
Lockers inside and out, benches, shower screens and taps descaled with an acid, floors and gratings treated separately and disinfected. Outlets are opened and cleared.
Mirror walls and glazing
Full-height mirrors in studios with no moisture reaching the silver layer and no agent in the perimeter joint, because that is where the back of the mirror clouds over.
A visible record and consumables
Paper, soap and sanitiser dispensers refilled, stock reported, the visit evidenced with the date. Anything unusual on the equipment we report with a photograph to the studio management.

Sweat is a salt solution and goes on working
What is left behind on pads, handles and dumbbells is water with salt, urea and skin oils. The chloride content attacks chromed and nickel-plated parts and leads there to pitting corrosion which can no longer be polished out. That is why the film is removed first and the disinfection follows: a disinfectant on a film of grease does not reach the surface and is wasted work.
Alcohol-based spray disinfection destroys upholstery
High alcohol contents draw the plasticiser out of synthetic leather covers; after some months the surface splits at seams and edges, and from then on it can no longer be safely disinfected, because the split holds the dirt. Equipment manufacturers therefore state which group of active substances is permissible, and frequently rule alcohol out. We record that for each type of machine and there work with alcohol-free, listed agents.
The floor in the weights area tolerates neither solvents nor deep cleaners
Rubber granulate floors are bound elastomers: strongly alkaline cleaners and solvents attack the binder, the surface becomes porous and afterwards takes up every kind of dirt more deeply. In the studio there is often a resilient sports floor to DIN 18032-2 or sealed parquet; there standing water is the problem, because it runs into the joint and the perimeter junction and gets under the seal. Both surfaces are cleaned with a barely damp pad and with the agent approved for that flooring, not flooded wet.
