The client remains responsible for papers containing personal data, even where a firm is doing the clearance. Putting files into the paper container, or throwing a hard drive into the electrical scrap, is therefore a risk that can simply be avoided: collect separately, hand over sealed, have the destruction confirmed. With medical practices and professional offices the duty of confidentiality is added, which makes the route clearer still.
Reuse comes before disposal, but not automatically
Charitable receiving points and social shops only take furniture and household goods if they are clean, complete and undamaged, and electrical appliances only in working order — upholstered furniture is frequently not accepted at all. Whatever is refused is waste and has to be disposed of accordingly. At the inspection we go through what realistically will be accepted, so that on the day of the clearance nothing is loaded twice.
