In a frozen store, every litre of water is a problem
At minus twenty degrees, mop water freezes on the floor into a slippery surface before it has been picked up, and moist air settles as frost on evaporators, the ceiling area and the door airlock. Frost on the evaporator fins acts as an insulating layer: refrigeration output falls, the plant runs longer and the defrost cycles come more often. Work is therefore done with frost-safe agents in the smallest quantities, with pick-up in the same movement and in intervals, because cold limits both grip strength and attention. Dry ice and steam processes are effective but need a release, ventilation and distance from open goods.
Dust on an optical sensor is an error rate
Barcode scanners, photoelectric sensors, reflectors and camera systems in conveyor technology work with scattered light; a film of dust on the read window lowers the first-read rate, and the installation answers with jams, re-reads and misrouting, without anyone looking for the cause in the dirt. The windows are usually polycarbonate or acrylic and react to cleaners containing alcohol or ammonia with stress cracking and dulling, which is why they are worked dry with a soft cloth and only with water where necessary. Before any intervention comes isolation: moving conveyors are not cleaned, and the release comes from maintenance, not from the shift.
Too much cleaner makes the floor slippery, not cleaner
Warehouse floors are classified to DIN 51130 in assessment groups from R 9 to R 13, and traffic areas in warehouses usually sit at R 11 or R 12. That effect depends on the micro-roughness of the surface: if the dose is too high or the dirty water is not picked up completely, a surfactant film remains that masks the roughness and makes the floor measurably more slippery in forklift traffic. We dose to the manufacturer's figure, watch for clean contact along the squeegee and only release areas once they have dried.
