Around the softener there are almost always salt residues, because some goes astray when it is refilled. Lint is a fire load, not dust
Fibre debris from cotton and polyester lies loose, very fine and dry — it ignites easily and goes on smouldering, and it does so precisely where a dryer is giving off heat anyway.
