With a dryer it is the air path that decides, not the lint filter
A vented dryer draws large volumes of air out of the room. If the room is tight and the make-up air too small, negative pressure builds, the drying time rises and the appliance runs hot even though the filter is clean. Heat-pump dryers also have a second filter stage and a condenser with narrow fins: if those clog with fibre fluff, laundry stays damp, biofilm forms in the condensate tray and the room smells sweetish. Regeneration salt is a chloride and goes on working in the floor
Around the softener there are almost always salt residues, because some goes astray when it is refilled. Salt attracts atmospheric moisture, stays permanently damp and travels as a solution into the screed, plinths and joints; chlorides there promote corrosion of reinforcement and metal parts and drive efflorescence to the surface as things dry. Sweeping does not improve matters, because the dissolved portion remains: it takes pick-up with water and repeated wiping. Lint is a fire load, not dust
Fibre debris from cotton and polyester lies loose, very fine and dry — it ignites easily and goes on smouldering, and it does so precisely where a dryer is giving off heat anyway. Where it lies dangerously is not on the floor but behind plinth panels, in the gaps along the row of dryers and in the exhaust grille: the places a quick round does not reach. That is why it is vacuumed dry rather than swept, to a plan covering the concealed zones, and only after that is wet work done anywhere.
