Dispensers and hand drying are part of the hygiene
Soap is not topped up but changed: pour fresh soap into a half-empty, uncleaned cartridge and you get bacterial growth in the container, which is why closed cartridge systems, or refill containers that have been fully cleaned and dried, are the right way. With hand drying it is less the type that counts than the condition: warm-air and high-speed units have filters, collection trays and air outlets that have to be cleaned themselves, otherwise they distribute what they draw in. Paper towels in single-sheet dispensers are hygienically unproblematic, but need refill checks at the peak, because an empty unit is noticed precisely when the place is full. That is why we record consumption per unit and clean the equipment itself as well, not only around it.
The smell rarely comes from the surface
Urea is broken down enzymatically by bacteria into ammonia, and from what remains, hard deposits form with calcium and magnesium which sit in the pan, the trap and the drain pipe — and there no urinal block and no surface cleaner has any effect. Water-saving flushes and waterless urinals make this worse, because less flushing water raises the concentration; another classic is the dried-out trap in a rarely used floor drain, which lets sewer gas straight into the room. That is why we work with acid and a contact time, top up drains to a plan, and say plainly when porous silicone or weak extract ventilation is the actual cause — replacing the joint is then a matter for our partner firm Skyline Bau GmbH.
Disinfecting without cleaning does not work
Films of dirt, grease and protein bind the active substance and put it out of action before it reaches the germs; that is the reason why in practice the work is always cleaning first and disinfection second. Concentration and contact time are part of the effect as well: a surface wiped dry after twenty seconds has not been disinfected, only been damp — the entries in the VAH and RKI lists state the relevant period for each product. What makes sense is the targeted treatment of contact surfaces; surface disinfection of the floor replaces no cleaning and achieves almost nothing in hygienic terms.
