Traffic routes and forklift marks
Black streaks on warehouse floors are thermally deposited tyre abrasion from solid and cushion tyres, not a film of dirt — they need mechanical action from a cylindrical brush or pad plus a mildly alkaline solution. The work is done with a scrubber dryer, because the water has to be picked up again on the same pass.
Rack uprights, beams and high-level surfaces
Dust on beams, pipework and continuous light fittings drops onto the goods at every knock. It is vacuumed with class M filtration, never blown off, and the aisles are closed off section by section rather than all at once.
Loading bay, door and docking area
At the loading bay, road salt, hydraulic oil, pallet timber and film remnants all come together. Door tracks, dock leveller edges and floor gullies are cleared separately, because chloride residues attack steel and the concrete edge at those points.
Floor treated according to its construction
Granolithic screed, epoxy coating and dispersion sealer tolerate different agents: unsealed granolithic is absorbent and takes up oil, while a coating is dulled by strongly alkaline or solvent-based products. What is to be used is settled before the first pass.
Welfare area, picking stations, offices
Break room, changing room, sanitary areas and the packing benches in goods outward run on the same cycle. Cardboard fibre dust collects at packing stations and works its way into keyboards and scanner cradles.
Zone plan, shift window, release
The building is divided into traffic area, aisle, block storage and loading bay, and each zone has its own cycle. The start and finish of every section are agreed with the shift supervisor, conveyor equipment is only driven over once released, and wet areas are signed.

Handing a building back or a change of tenant
Before handover, what counts is the appearance of the floor, rack imprints, adhesive residues from floor markings and the loading bay. The condition is recorded with a date and photographs.

Too much cleaner makes the floor slippery, not cleaner
Warehouse floors are classified to DIN 51130 in assessment groups from R 9 to R 13, and traffic areas in warehouses usually sit at R 11 or R 12. That effect depends on the micro-roughness of the surface: if the dose is too high or the dirty water is not picked up completely, a surfactant film remains that masks the roughness and makes the floor measurably more slippery in forklift traffic. We dose to the manufacturer's figure, watch for clean contact along the squeegee and only release areas once they have dried.
Dust at height is a fire safety and a product protection matter
Sprinkler heads and heat detectors have to stay clear: a crust of dust, or a sheet of film pulled over the head, alters the response time and the spray pattern when it matters. At the same time, a settled layer of dust on beams and pipework is a load that falls onto open goods at every impact — in a food warehouse that is a HACCP point, not a cosmetic flaw. Work therefore proceeds from the top down and with extraction rather than compressed air, or the dust simply ends up in the next section.
Oil stains on granolithic concrete are not a mopping matter
Unsealed granolithic screed is capillary-open, and hydraulic and gear oil penetrate several millimetres within hours. Mopping only takes off what sits on top; the rest migrates back to the surface in warm conditions and the stain is there again days later. The correct approach is a poultice of oil binder with a dwell time of several hours, repeated if need be. On coated floors the opposite applies: there the oil stays on the surface and has to come off quickly, before it runs under an edge of the coating.
