Hairspray lays a polymer film on everything nearby
The spray mist cures as a water-insoluble layer on mirrors, dryer holders, lights and shelves; water will not take it up, and ordinary glass cleaner smears it. It is dissolved with an alcohol-based or mildly alkaline solution, contact time and a soft cloth — without a blade, because mirror edges and coated surfaces will not forgive one. While the film is days old it comes off in one pass; after months it takes several.
Bleach dust should not be stirred up
The persulphates in bleaching powders are well known for their ability, as a fine dust, to irritate and sensitise staff airways. The dust settles on shelves, lights, shelf edges and in extract grilles and is released again by every dry wipe and every sweep. That is why it is picked up barely damp and the extract is taken into the cycle, and why the shelf above the mixing bench is a surface with its own interval rather than an afterthought.
The waste at the backwash unit is a mechanical matter
Hair ropes together with silicones, fats and limescale into a solid plug, which ordinary drain cleaners do not dissolve but saponify, making it tougher still — and strongly alkaline caustic attacks chrome and aluminium traps and can damage the seal. It is cleared mechanically: empty the strainer, open the trap and clear it out, and use a drain snake if needed. The hair strainer is a wearing part, to be replaced rather than patched.
