02. What Pigeon Control at Bling Bling covers
The scope of work in Salzburg at a glance — what the contract says and what actually happens on site.
Low-voltage impulse tracks on visible edges
Flat conductor tracks carrying a low-voltage impulse sit on cornices and parapet edges where spikes are out of the question visually. They are hard to see from a distance but need maintenance: leaves, droppings and nesting material on the track put the effect out of action.
Light wells, gratings and roof terrace gullies
Light wells and cellar wells are closed with a grating and netting above it, without obstructing the drainage of water. On roof terraces, recesses behind screening panels and beneath paving slabs are included, because birds breed there.
Fixing to suit the substrate and the building
Whether the fixing is screwed, clamped or bonded is decided by the substrate: exposed brick and historic render only by agreement, bonded fixing only with a UV- and temperature-resistant system, stainless steel in the appropriate grade so that no contact corrosion arises on zinc and copper sheet. Drill holes are made good and sealed.
Maintenance, re-tensioning and inspection rounds
Netting tears at clamps and edges, tensioning cables slacken, bonded fixings suffer in heat, and leaves in the netting become a nesting surface in their own right. An inspection interval with re-tensioning, clamp replacement and cleaning of the installation is therefore part of the service and not a matter of goodwill.
Pigeon spikes
Spike strips with blunt tips for ledges, window sills, gutters and edges. The most common solution — it prevents landing and does not injure. Made of stainless steel, durable and weather-resistant.
Bird netting
For larger areas: balconies, courtyards, light wells and facades. A mesh of about 50 mm against pigeons, finer against small birds. Matched in colour and properly tensioned, it is barely visible.
The old town of Salzburg is a World Heritage site, so measures to roof and facade are possible only by agreement and as invisibly as can be managed. The narrow lanes often leave no room for a mobile platform, which is why rope access or the period when scaffolding is up is used instead. On the Mönchsberg and the conglomerate rock faces there are rock niches serving as natural resting places, from which the adjoining roofs are approached. The high rainfall makes nesting material in eaves and netting go mossy and rot more quickly — which increases the weight in the net and shortens the maintenance interval.
03. Pigeon Control: Bling Bling vs. the competition
Pigeon control in Austria is offered by many providers. The difference at Bling Bling Premium Reinigung: we deliver droppings remediation and animal-welfare-compliant deterrence from a single source, work exclusively with tested systems that comply with animal welfare law, secure work at height with a platform as well, and give a written fixed price after the site inspection. No subcontractors — whoever quotes carries out the work. €3m public liability, a family firm since 2014. In Salzburg, Bling Bling works with the same core team that knows the building.

06. 10 reasons for Pigeon Control from Bling Bling
What a cleaning company has to be measured against — and which of it can be verified.
1In business since 2014
A family firm, not a franchise and not a broker — whoever quotes also carries out the work.
2Registered core team
Permanently employed and properly registered. No chain of subcontractors where nobody is liable at the end.
3The same people every time
The team knows the building, the access and the routines. Cover is arranged and named in advance.
4€3m public liability
Personal injury, property and financial loss covered; the certificate is attached to the quotation.
5RKI/VAH-listed agents, HACCP
Listed agents, trained staff, a cleaning and disinfection plan for each building.
6Multilingual
German, English and five further languages — the briefing gets through.
7No price without a site visit
A flat price over the phone rarely holds. After the visit the framework is set out in writing. A monthly flat rate applies to weekly recurring cleaning; one-off and deep cleans by effort - hourly, per square metre or flat - travel included.
8Dated proof
Record of each visit and photo documentation, reported monthly.
9Every recess is checked before installation
Nothing is closed and nothing is netted over without first checking whether birds, broods or nesting material are inside.
10An inspection appointment after the first season
Net tension, clamps, bonded points and accumulated leaves are checked after the first year, because that is where the gaps arise through which pigeon control fails.
07. Pigeon Control in 4 more cities
Bling Bling works in Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Klosterneuburg — with its own staff on site, not with subcontractors hired in.
08. Pigeon Control for 5 typical situations
The same service looks different depending on the occasion — these five situations come up most often.
Pigeons in a loft they have got into
If a loft is already occupied, the first step is not to close it up: first a check for birds and broods, a way out for them, removal of nests and droppings, and only then the tight closure of the opening.
Recurring infestation despite an existing installation
An old installation that no longer holds anything back is a frequent case: rows of spikes that are too short, torn netting, slackened wires, gaps at corners and gutters. We survey what is there and add to it where the gap actually is, rather than installing everything anew.
Balcony and terrace
The most frequent case: pigeons sit on the railing and the balustrade and soil everything. The answer: spikes on the railing plus discreet netting over the open area.
Facade, cornice and parapet
Soiled facades and cornices — particularly on Gründerzeit buildings. Spikes on the landing surfaces, and on sensitive facades tensioned wire.
Roof and gutter
Pigeons nest under tiles and on ridges. Secured work at height, spikes and netting keep roof and gutter clear for good.
★ Worth knowing
What is often misjudged about Pigeon Control
Said up front, on the facts — not after the invoice.
Deterrence without checking for broods is not deterrence
Town pigeons are feral domestic pigeons and fall under animal welfare law: it is prohibited to cause an animal unjustified pain, suffering or harm. Netting stretched over an occupied recess shuts adult or young birds in — that is not permissible, and in practical terms it is also the worst thing that can be done, because the smell then stays in the building for months and the area has to be opened up and remediated first. This is why every recess, every void and every eaves box is checked before any installation. If a nest with eggs or young is found, that section is deferred and secured later; where there are larger populations, the approach is agreed with the responsible authority. Adhesive pastes, poisons and traps are not an option with us — quite apart from the legal side, pastes clog the plumage and bind dust, so that after a season the surface is worse than it was before. And one point that is often underestimated when the work is quoted: deterrence moves birds. Secure only your own balcony and you will have them two windows further along, which is why the whole building is considered and not the square metre someone is complaining about.
Once the pigeons are gone, the pigeon tick moves on
In nesting places, wall crevices and voids lives the pigeon tick, Argas reflexus. It is active at night, feeds only briefly and survives for years without a host. If the pigeon disappears — because the loft has been closed or the nesting place taken down — the tick loses its host and migrates: through cracks in timber boarding, along services, through ceiling penetrations and socket outlets into the flats below. Bites can trigger strong allergic reactions, up to circulatory symptoms, and because the animal is small and nocturnal the cause is often only recognised after weeks. For planning purposes that means: before an occupied void is sealed, the question of whether it is colonised belongs in the assessment. Nests and droppings are removed beforehand, crevices and joints towards the flats are closed, and where there is any suspicion, treatment by a pest control specialist is put in first — closing it up and hoping is the most expensive route here. Besides the tick, nesting material also yields the red poultry mite, the pigeon louse fly and larder beetles, which take the same route.
Why deterrence is planned according to behaviour and surface
Pigeons are markedly faithful to a site and return to their breeding place over years — even after it has been made unattractive. They get used to stimuli without consequences within days, and that applies equally to decoys, fluttering tape, noise devices and ultrasound units; in the ultrasonic range the pigeon hears next to nothing in any case. Only physical barriers are effective, and then it comes down to matching them: spike strips on narrow edges, tensioned wire on visible cornices, netting for enclosed airspaces, mesh for openings, impulse track for edges subject to planning requirements. Wrongly dimensioned, the barrier itself becomes a nesting place: netting tensioned too low collects leaves and turns into a platform, rows of spikes that are too short leave the edge zones free, and in widely spaced spike strips nesting material is deposited until the tips have no effect. Cover right into the corner, mesh size, tension and the maintenance interval are therefore the points on which pigeon control is decided — not the choice of system on its own.

●. Frequently asked questions about Pigeon Control in Salzburg
What does Pigeon Control cost?
There is no price before the site visit, and a figure given over the phone rarely holds. We look at surfaces, access and time windows, and then the cost framework is set out in writing with a schedule of services. What changes the price: the area, the frequency, the condition at handover and the time of day the work is done. Two rules apply everywhere: a monthly flat rate is only offered for recurring cleaning at least once a week, including stairwells. One-off jobs, first cleans and deep cleans are billed by effort - depending on the service by the hour at a higher rate, by square metre or as a flat price - and travel time there and back counts.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes, free of charge and without obligation. It is the only way to quote seriously, so we treat it as part of the offer, not as a service to be paid for.
Does the same person come every time?
Yes. The team is permanently employed and knows the building, the access arrangements and the routines. Cover is arranged in advance and named, and it works from the building log, not from a verbal handover.
Is your staff properly registered?
All of them, with social insurance. No chain of subcontractors in which nobody is liable at the end. Proof is provided on request.
What insurance is in place?
Public liability of €3m, covering personal injury, property damage and financial loss. The certificate is attached to the quotation.
What happens if something is not right?
It is put right within 48 hours, in writing, at no extra cost. Measured against the schedule of services and a joint inspection, not against an impression.
Can you work outside business hours?
Yes — early, late, at weekends or on public holidays. In occupied buildings, daytime cleaning in sections is often the better option, because the client sees the work and can raise anything immediately.
Do I have to provide materials or a room?
Materials and equipment we bring. What helps is a lockable store with a slop sink, space for the trolley and somewhere for pads to dry — damp pads in a closed bag are the most common source of smell in an otherwise clean building.
What notice period applies?
The contract is terminable monthly. There is no minimum term and no automatic extension by the year.
Do you also work in English?
Yes — German, English and five further languages. The briefing gets through, which matters more on site than it sounds.
Which documents do I get?
A schedule of services with frequencies, a dated record of each visit, photo documentation before and after, and a monthly report.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within a few working days of the quotation being accepted. Short-notice jobs are most readily possible in Vienna, because travel times within a district are short.
