02. What Church Cleaning at Bling Bling covers
The scope of work in Vienna at a glance — what the contract says and what actually happens on site.
Porch, tower access, gallery, pigeon droppings and the record
Droppings are damped down before removal and worked with respiratory protection, never swept dry. Every visit is documented with the date and photographs.
Sacristy, vestments and textiles
The credence, the cupboards, the sacrarium and the floor by the ordinary method, carpet runners and kneeler cushions vacuumed. Liturgical textiles and vessels are handled only on the parish's instructions.
Candlesticks, candelabra and fittings
Wax, grease and hand marks come off, the patina that has grown stays. Bronze and brass are not brought to a high polish; silver and gilded items remain with the parish and the conservator.
Holy water stoups, font and hand-contact surfaces
Basins are emptied, cleaned mechanically, rinsed clear and handed over dry. With them door handles, pew ends, confessional grilles and handrails on a cycle.
Crypt, grave slabs and salt efflorescence
White, downy efflorescence is taken off dry and recorded with a photograph, not wiped off damp. Worn grave slabs and epitaphs in the floor neutral and with little liquid only.
Loft, tower chamber and bell installation
Dust, lumps of mortar, and bird and bat droppings are taken off damped down, with respiratory protection and a fine filter. Bats are protected: their roost is not cleared but reported and discussed.
In Vienna the stock ranges from the baroque inner-city church to the post-war parish centre in fair-faced concrete, and the two call for opposite things: there restraint on polychromed furnishings, here abrasion-free work on an absorbent concrete surface. In the first district practically every intervention is subject to monument protection and is agreed with the Federal Monuments Authority before anything is touched. The large pigeon population in the inner city makes cornices, tower openings and galleries a permanent subject, and equipment reaches the church only through loading zones and time windows.
03. Church Cleaning: Bling Bling vs. the competition
A church is in most cases a protected building, and there the wrong cleaning is not poor work but an alteration of the fabric. Water gilding, polychromed timber, stained glass, lime-bound stone and salt-laden render react to water, acid and mechanical action irreversibly, and work on listed buildings requires permission under the Austrian Monument Protection Act. We therefore work in three zones: surfaces that we clean, surfaces that we only dust, and surfaces that belong to the conservator. What falls into which zone is settled at the inspection with the parish and held in writing; the cost framework follows after that. In Vienna, Bling Bling works with the same core team that knows the building.

06. 10 reasons for Church Cleaning from Bling Bling
What a cleaning company has to be measured against — and which of it can be verified.
1In business since 2014
A family firm, not a franchise and not a broker — whoever quotes also carries out the work.
2Registered core team
Permanently employed and properly registered. No chain of subcontractors where nobody is liable at the end.
3The same people every time
The team knows the building, the access and the routines. Cover is arranged and named in advance.
4€3m public liability
Personal injury, property and financial loss covered; the certificate is attached to the quotation.
5RKI/VAH-listed agents, HACCP
Listed agents, trained staff, a cleaning and disinfection plan for each building.
6Multilingual
German, English and five further languages — the briefing gets through.
7No price without a site visit
A flat price over the phone rarely holds. After the visit the framework is set out in writing. A monthly flat rate applies to weekly recurring cleaning; one-off and deep cleans by effort - hourly, per square metre or flat - travel included.
8Dated proof
Record of each visit and photo documentation, reported monthly.
9Appointments around services and feast days
Work is done between masses, weddings and funerals, quietly and without leaving a smell in the room. The scheduling is handled by the same core team that knows the building.
10Respiratory protection and fine filters in tower and loft
Droppings, mortar dust and old deposits are taken off damped down and picked up with a fine filter, with protective equipment; bat roosts are left untouched and reported.
07. Church Cleaning in 4 more cities
Bling Bling works in Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Klosterneuburg — with its own staff on site, not with subcontractors hired in.
08. Church Cleaning for 5 typical situations
The same service looks different depending on the occasion — these five situations come up most often.
Organ or restoration work in the building
Dust protection before the start, a builders' film and plaster dust afterwards — coordinated with what the organ builder and the restoration require. The instrument itself stays with the organ builder.
Droppings in the loft or the tower chamber
Bird and bat droppings are picked up damped down, with respiratory protection and separate disposal. If it is a bat roost, we report it and do not touch it.
A concert or performance in the church
The surfaces before the set-up, and after the strike marks from staging, tape residue, cable impressions and chair marks on the stone floor. Both with a fixed completion time.
After the heating season
At the end of winter, dark plumes show on walls, piers and vaulting. That is the classic appointment, and it recurs every year.
Before confirmation, first communion, the patronal feast or the wedding season
Pews, floor, porch, glass surfaces inside and the routes the guests take — with a fixed completion time before the first service.
★ Worth knowing
What is often misjudged about Church Cleaning
Said up front, on the facts — not after the invoice.
The holy water stoup is a water point with many hands
Standing water at room temperature into which hands are dipped for weeks forms a biofilm on the wall of the basin; it becomes visible as a slimy coating, cloudiness and a rim at the water line. Professionally, the basin should be emptied completely at regular intervals, cleaned mechanically with a brush, rinsed clear and handed over dry before it is filled again — topping up onto the old remainder only extends the life of the coating. For basins of marble, limestone or bronze, no acidic and no abrasive agent comes into question, because the inner surface would be made dull and roughened and would then take a coating even faster. How often it is changed is for the parish to decide; we record when we cleaned the basin.
Candle soot is taken off dry, not wiped
Soot particles are extremely fine and greasy; if water is added, it binds them into a veil that is drawn into open-pored limestone, sandstone and lime render and stays dark there — a deposit becomes a discolouration. Professionally, therefore, work runs in this order: soft brush, vacuum with a fine filter held at a distance, latex sponge dry, and only after that does a test area decide whether a poultice or a damp method comes into question at all. On polychromed, painted or gilded surfaces our work stops before the surface: the bole and the chalk ground beneath the gold leaf are water-soluble, and a damp cloth takes the gold with it.
Heating up too quickly blackens more than a year of use
Warm air rises along walls and vaulting and carries soot and fine dust with it; if the church is heated strongly before a service, strong convection arises and the deposit is carried across the cold building elements. At the same time the relative humidity falls, and timber, the organ and polychromed furnishings crack — in conservation practice the recommendation is therefore to heat slowly, in the order of one kelvin per hour, and to hold the relative humidity in the middle range of around 45 to 60 per cent. That is not a cleaning service, but it explains why the same blackening returns after every winter; we record the finding with photographs so that the parish can pass it on.

●. Frequently asked questions about Church Cleaning in Vienna
What does Church Cleaning cost?
There is no price before the site visit, and a figure given over the phone rarely holds. We look at surfaces, access and time windows, and then the cost framework is set out in writing with a schedule of services. What changes the price: the area, the frequency, the condition at handover and the time of day the work is done. Two rules apply everywhere: a monthly flat rate is only offered for recurring cleaning at least once a week, including stairwells. One-off jobs, first cleans and deep cleans are billed by effort - depending on the service by the hour at a higher rate, by square metre or as a flat price - and travel time there and back counts.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes, free of charge and without obligation. It is the only way to quote seriously, so we treat it as part of the offer, not as a service to be paid for.
Does the same person come every time?
Yes. The team is permanently employed and knows the building, the access arrangements and the routines. Cover is arranged in advance and named, and it works from the building log, not from a verbal handover.
Is your staff properly registered?
All of them, with social insurance. No chain of subcontractors in which nobody is liable at the end. Proof is provided on request.
What insurance is in place?
Public liability of €3m, covering personal injury, property damage and financial loss. The certificate is attached to the quotation.
What happens if something is not right?
It is put right within 48 hours, in writing, at no extra cost. Measured against the schedule of services and a joint inspection, not against an impression.
Can you work outside business hours?
Yes — early, late, at weekends or on public holidays. In occupied buildings, daytime cleaning in sections is often the better option, because the client sees the work and can raise anything immediately.
Do I have to provide materials or a room?
Materials and equipment we bring. What helps is a lockable store with a slop sink, space for the trolley and somewhere for pads to dry — damp pads in a closed bag are the most common source of smell in an otherwise clean building.
What notice period applies?
The contract is terminable monthly. There is no minimum term and no automatic extension by the year.
Do you also work in English?
Yes — German, English and five further languages. The briefing gets through, which matters more on site than it sounds.
Which documents do I get?
A schedule of services with frequencies, a dated record of each visit, photo documentation before and after, and a monthly report.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within a few working days of the quotation being accepted. Short-notice jobs are most readily possible in Vienna, because travel times within a district are short.
