02. What Church Cleaning at Bling Bling covers
The scope of work in Linz at a glance — what the contract says and what actually happens on site.
Furnishings, altar, sculpture and gilding
These surfaces are dusted dry only, and only where that has been released. Gilding, polychromed timber surfaces and paintings belong to the conservator, not in a cleaning item.
Stained glass, leaded glazing and windows
Dusted dry from the inside, without any cleaning agent and without pressure on the lead or the paint layer. Protective glazing and frames on the outside are assessed separately.
Porch, tower access, gallery, pigeon droppings and the record
Droppings are damped down before removal and worked with respiratory protection, never swept dry. Every visit is documented with the date and photographs.
Sacristy, vestments and textiles
The credence, the cupboards, the sacrarium and the floor by the ordinary method, carpet runners and kneeler cushions vacuumed. Liturgical textiles and vessels are handled only on the parish's instructions.
Candlesticks, candelabra and fittings
Wax, grease and hand marks come off, the patina that has grown stays. Bronze and brass are not brought to a high polish; silver and gilded items remain with the parish and the conservator.
Holy water stoups, font and hand-contact surfaces
Basins are emptied, cleaned mechanically, rinsed clear and handed over dry. With them door handles, pew ends, confessional grilles and handrails on a cycle.
Churches in Linz take the dust of an industrial city in addition to candle soot: on light-coloured limestone, render and fair-faced concrete the iron-bearing fraction shows as a red-brown veil that is easily mistaken for soot but is removed differently. Many large post-war churches have fair-faced concrete, exposed masonry and cast stone, that is, absorbent surfaces without paint, on which abrasion and moisture leave marks. The heating season is long because of the size of the spaces, and the annual appointment after the winter is correspondingly extensive.
03. Church Cleaning: Bling Bling vs. the competition
A church is in most cases a protected building, and there the wrong cleaning is not poor work but an alteration of the fabric. Water gilding, polychromed timber, stained glass, lime-bound stone and salt-laden render react to water, acid and mechanical action irreversibly, and work on listed buildings requires permission under the Austrian Monument Protection Act. We therefore work in three zones: surfaces that we clean, surfaces that we only dust, and surfaces that belong to the conservator. What falls into which zone is settled at the inspection with the parish and held in writing; the cost framework follows after that. In Linz, Bling Bling works with the same core team that knows the building.

06. 10 reasons for Church Cleaning from Bling Bling
What a cleaning company has to be measured against — and which of it can be verified.
1In business since 2014
A family firm, not a franchise and not a broker — whoever quotes also carries out the work.
2Registered core team
Permanently employed and properly registered. No chain of subcontractors where nobody is liable at the end.
3The same people every time
The team knows the building, the access and the routines. Cover is arranged and named in advance.
4€3m public liability
Personal injury, property and financial loss covered; the certificate is attached to the quotation.
5RKI/VAH-listed agents, HACCP
Listed agents, trained staff, a cleaning and disinfection plan for each building.
6Multilingual
German, English and five further languages — the briefing gets through.
7No price without a site visit
A flat price over the phone rarely holds. After the visit the framework is set out in writing. A monthly flat rate applies to weekly recurring cleaning; one-off and deep cleans by effort - hourly, per square metre or flat - travel included.
8Dated proof
Record of each visit and photo documentation, reported monthly.
9One site manager for church, parish house and external areas
The sacred space, the office, the hall and the forecourt run through the same contact and one plan, rather than through several firms with several appointments.
10Restraint as a working method
We take off what is dirt and leave what is patina and fabric — a polished bronze and a stone rubbed bare are not clean but altered. Notable findings go to the parish with a photograph, so that the right course can be taken.
07. Church Cleaning in 4 more cities
Bling Bling works in Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Klosterneuburg — with its own staff on site, not with subcontractors hired in.
08. Church Cleaning for 5 typical situations
The same service looks different depending on the occasion — these five situations come up most often.
Before confirmation, first communion, the patronal feast or the wedding season
Pews, floor, porch, glass surfaces inside and the routes the guests take — with a fixed completion time before the first service.
Wax on pews and the stone floor after candlelit services
After devotions with many candles, wax splashes lie over whole areas. The sooner they are taken off cold, the less shadow remains.
Pigeon droppings in the tower or on the gallery
Taken off damped down, worked with respiratory protection, the surface checked afterwards. Without physical deterrence it comes back, and we say so.
After building or restoration work
Plaster and grinding dust, a builders' film on stone and timber, coverings and adhesive traces. Coordinated with what the restoration requires.
Advent and setting up the crib
The surfaces are done before the crib is set up, needles, wax and candle remains afterwards. Figures and textiles only where that has been released.
★ Worth knowing
What is often misjudged about Church Cleaning
Said up front, on the facts — not after the invoice.
Salt efflorescence is not dirt to be wiped away
In old walls, salts travel to the surface with the moisture and crystallise there as a white, downy layer — commonly called wall saltpetre. Anyone who wipes it off damp dissolves the salts again and drives them back into the render; on the next drying they come out with greater volume and blow the render and the paint off, which is why the well-meant wipe accelerates the damage. The correct approach is to take it off dry, with a soft brush and a vacuum with a fine filter, and to record the finding with a photograph and the location. The cause is moisture in the structure — rising through the floor junction, or from outside through defective roof drainage or joints; for that our partner firm Skyline Bau GmbH is available, and the cleaning runs separately from it.
Brass and bronze are degreased, not polished
On bronze, brass and copper there lies an oxide layer that has grown over time, which protects the metal and belongs to the appearance of a historic interior. Polishing pastes and acidic metal cleaners take it off together with a thin layer of the material: the piece shines for a few weeks, then tarnishes unevenly and in patches and is polished again on the next round — a cycle that costs fabric every time and rounds off engraving. On gilded and fire-silvered pieces the coating is a few micrometres thin and is irretrievably gone once polished. We take off wax, hand grease and dust, work over neutral and dry, and everything that carries polychromy, gilding or enamel stays with the conservator.
The holy water stoup is a water point with many hands
Standing water at room temperature into which hands are dipped for weeks forms a biofilm on the wall of the basin; it becomes visible as a slimy coating, cloudiness and a rim at the water line. Professionally, the basin should be emptied completely at regular intervals, cleaned mechanically with a brush, rinsed clear and handed over dry before it is filled again — topping up onto the old remainder only extends the life of the coating. For basins of marble, limestone or bronze, no acidic and no abrasive agent comes into question, because the inner surface would be made dull and roughened and would then take a coating even faster. How often it is changed is for the parish to decide; we record when we cleaned the basin.

●. Frequently asked questions about Church Cleaning in Linz
What does Church Cleaning cost?
There is no price before the site visit, and a figure given over the phone rarely holds. We look at surfaces, access and time windows, and then the cost framework is set out in writing with a schedule of services. What changes the price: the area, the frequency, the condition at handover and the time of day the work is done. Two rules apply everywhere: a monthly flat rate is only offered for recurring cleaning at least once a week, including stairwells. One-off jobs, first cleans and deep cleans are billed by effort - depending on the service by the hour at a higher rate, by square metre or as a flat price - and travel time there and back counts.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes, free of charge and without obligation. It is the only way to quote seriously, so we treat it as part of the offer, not as a service to be paid for.
Does the same person come every time?
Yes. The team is permanently employed and knows the building, the access arrangements and the routines. Cover is arranged in advance and named, and it works from the building log, not from a verbal handover.
Is your staff properly registered?
All of them, with social insurance. No chain of subcontractors in which nobody is liable at the end. Proof is provided on request.
What insurance is in place?
Public liability of €3m, covering personal injury, property damage and financial loss. The certificate is attached to the quotation.
What happens if something is not right?
It is put right within 48 hours, in writing, at no extra cost. Measured against the schedule of services and a joint inspection, not against an impression.
Can you work outside business hours?
Yes — early, late, at weekends or on public holidays. In occupied buildings, daytime cleaning in sections is often the better option, because the client sees the work and can raise anything immediately.
Do I have to provide materials or a room?
Materials and equipment we bring. What helps is a lockable store with a slop sink, space for the trolley and somewhere for pads to dry — damp pads in a closed bag are the most common source of smell in an otherwise clean building.
What notice period applies?
The contract is terminable monthly. There is no minimum term and no automatic extension by the year.
Do you also work in English?
Yes — German, English and five further languages. The briefing gets through, which matters more on site than it sounds.
Which documents do I get?
A schedule of services with frequencies, a dated record of each visit, photo documentation before and after, and a monthly report.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within a few working days of the quotation being accepted. Short-notice jobs are most readily possible in Vienna, because travel times within a district are short.
