02. What Animal Shelter Cleaning at Bling Bling covers

The scope of work in Graz at a glance — what the contract says and what actually happens on site.

Outdoor kennels, runs and sand areas

Fouling spots, digging spots, fence bases, grilles, channels and sand areas. Parasite stages persist particularly long in the ground of runs, which is why removal and drying matter more here than chemistry.

Wash bay and grooming room

Bath, taps, hose, dryer, the clipping station and the drain with its hair trap. Hair and shampoo residues form a layer in the drain that gives off a smell and slows the drainage.

Boxes and kennels on a fixed cycle

Cleared out, faeces and bedding removed, foamed on, left to act, rinsed off without pressure, water squeegeed off and dried. Only a dry box goes back into occupancy.

Choice of product by pathogen

Which preparation is used depends on the findings: non-enveloped viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasite stages call for different spectra of activity and different contact times.

Cat rooms and quarantine kept separate

Their own equipment, their own cloths and a sequence running from clean to unclean. Quarantine is done last, and nothing is carried back.

Feed kitchen and feed store

Worktops, bowls, chopping boards, refrigerators and storage containers with cleaning, disinfection and rinsing. Signs of pests are reported and not wiped away.

The facilities in Graz lie on the edge of the city and in part on the slopes, with large outdoor kennels and runs — the outdoor element is greater here than the indoor one, and the accesses are narrow. In inversion weather in winter the air stands still in the basin: smell and dust do not then clear away, which increases the importance of extract air, gully cleaning and hygiene at the fouling spots. As a university city it brings many changing volunteers into the building, which is why contact surfaces and briefing are part of the plan.

03. Animal Shelter Cleaning: Bling Bling vs. the competition

In an animal shelter, cleaning is part of disease prevention, and the occupancy changes continually: animals arrive with an unclear history, go into quarantine, change boxes, and in between it is the surfaces that decide whether an infection costs a single case or a whole wing. The most frequent technical mistake is one standard product for everything: quaternary ammonium compounds and alcohol do not cover non-enveloped viruses such as parvoviruses and caliciviruses, and against Giardia cysts and coccidian oocysts the way through is predominantly cleaning, drying and heat. We work to a written plan, choose the product to match the pathogen, observe contact times and document every area with a date. What needs doing follows from the site inspection; occupancy, construction and drainage determine the work involved and with it the cost. In Graz, Bling Bling works with the same core team that knows the building.

06. 10 reasons for Animal Shelter Cleaning from Bling Bling

What a cleaning company has to be measured against — and which of it can be verified.

1In business since 2014

A family firm, not a franchise and not a broker — whoever quotes also carries out the work.

2Registered core team

Permanently employed and properly registered. No chain of subcontractors where nobody is liable at the end.

3The same people every time

The team knows the building, the access and the routines. Cover is arranged and named in advance.

4€3m public liability

Personal injury, property and financial loss covered; the certificate is attached to the quotation.

5RKI/VAH-listed agents, HACCP

Listed agents, trained staff, a cleaning and disinfection plan for each building.

6Multilingual

German, English and five further languages — the briefing gets through.

7No price without a site visit

A flat price over the phone rarely holds. After the visit the framework is set out in writing. A monthly flat rate applies to weekly recurring cleaning; one-off and deep cleans by effort - hourly, per square metre or flat - travel included.

8Dated proof

Record of each visit and photo documentation, reported monthly.

9The round runs to the rhythm of feeding and exercise

We work in the windows in which boxes are genuinely empty, rather than moving animals for the cleaning.

10Reprocessing the equipment is part of the job

Blankets, beds, bowls and transport boxes are reprocessed by us and are not left over as remaining work for the care staff.

08. Animal Shelter Cleaning for 5 typical situations

The same service looks different depending on the occasion — these five situations come up most often.

Before an inspection by the authorities

All areas to plan, with records for each area and a date.

Fleas, mites or mange in a wing

Textiles into a hot wash; crevices, skirtings, beds and scratching posts vacuumed and reprocessed, bags disposed of sealed. Treatment on the animal and in the room remains with the veterinary surgeon and the specialist contractor.

A fungal finding in the cat area

With dermatophytes it is hair removal that counts: boxes, scratching posts, textiles, transport crates and floors are worked mechanically and over several passes, then treated with a product listed as fungicidal.

After a mass intake

When many animals arrive at short notice from a seizure, boxes, quarantine and ancillary rooms have to be made available in stages — with more staff rather than more time.

A hot spell with smell and flies

Drains, fouling spots, feed residues and the area around the bins are the source in summer; what is treated is the drain, the joint and the container, not the room air.

★ Worth knowing

What is often misjudged about Animal Shelter Cleaning

Said up front, on the facts — not after the invoice.

The smell of ammonia points to residual urea

Urea itself barely smells; it is urease-producing bacteria that split it into ammonia, and that irritates the airways of animals more than those of people — in cats with respiratory symptoms it measurably worsens the course. So if a wing smells despite daily cleaning, urea has been left behind: in open joints, in cracks in the floor coating, beneath grille sections, in gullies. What helps against it is alternating alkaline cleaning, acidic passes against urine salts and enzymatic products given time, together with an extract system that is actually running.

Scratches are hiding places, and disinfection does not reach them

On scratched plastic boxes, worn bowls, open cracks in coatings and chipped tile joints, a biofilm forms in the grooves in which micro-organisms sit protected by their own matrix: the product reaches the outer layers, the core remains and grows back — the surface is then visibly clean and microbiologically not controllable. Part of hygiene is therefore assessing the surface itself: whatever is deeply scratched or open is replaced or repaired, not disinfected more often. We list such places in our findings, and the repair work is carried out by our partner firm Skyline Bau GmbH.

Not every disinfectant reaches parvovirus

Non-enveloped viruses such as canine parvovirus and feline calicivirus have no lipid envelope for alcohol and quaternary ammonium compounds to act on; they survive weeks to months on surfaces and need a preparation with a declared spectrum of activity, in animal keeping usually selected from the DVG list. Two things are decisive, and they are the two most often missing in daily practice: the surface has to be free of faeces, bedding and feed residues beforehand, because organic load binds the active substance, and it has to stay visibly wet for the whole of the stated contact time. Spray a box out and squeegee it straight off and you have cleaned it, not disinfected it.

●. Frequently asked questions about Animal Shelter Cleaning in Graz

What does Animal Shelter Cleaning cost?

There is no price before the site visit, and a figure given over the phone rarely holds. We look at surfaces, access and time windows, and then the cost framework is set out in writing with a schedule of services. What changes the price: the area, the frequency, the condition at handover and the time of day the work is done. Two rules apply everywhere: a monthly flat rate is only offered for recurring cleaning at least once a week, including stairwells. One-off jobs, first cleans and deep cleans are billed by effort - depending on the service by the hour at a higher rate, by square metre or as a flat price - and travel time there and back counts.

Is the site visit really free?

Yes, free of charge and without obligation. It is the only way to quote seriously, so we treat it as part of the offer, not as a service to be paid for.

Does the same person come every time?

Yes. The team is permanently employed and knows the building, the access arrangements and the routines. Cover is arranged in advance and named, and it works from the building log, not from a verbal handover.

Is your staff properly registered?

All of them, with social insurance. No chain of subcontractors in which nobody is liable at the end. Proof is provided on request.

What insurance is in place?

Public liability of €3m, covering personal injury, property damage and financial loss. The certificate is attached to the quotation.

What happens if something is not right?

It is put right within 48 hours, in writing, at no extra cost. Measured against the schedule of services and a joint inspection, not against an impression.

Can you work outside business hours?

Yes — early, late, at weekends or on public holidays. In occupied buildings, daytime cleaning in sections is often the better option, because the client sees the work and can raise anything immediately.

Do I have to provide materials or a room?

Materials and equipment we bring. What helps is a lockable store with a slop sink, space for the trolley and somewhere for pads to dry — damp pads in a closed bag are the most common source of smell in an otherwise clean building.

What notice period applies?

The contract is terminable monthly. There is no minimum term and no automatic extension by the year.

Do you also work in English?

Yes — German, English and five further languages. The briefing gets through, which matters more on site than it sounds.

Which documents do I get?

A schedule of services with frequencies, a dated record of each visit, photo documentation before and after, and a monthly report.

How quickly can you start?

Usually within a few working days of the quotation being accepted. Short-notice jobs are most readily possible in Vienna, because travel times within a district are short.
